HUGE OPPOrtunity to join in on some classic Mercury Muscle at a GREAT PRICE.
Found this on CL while searching for a buddy of mine who wimped out and isn't ready to drop the cash on a classic at the moment.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It's...it's just so beautiful. And at just 1 dollar under 8k I don't feel it can be beat. C'mon, it's smaller than the Montego with a bigger engine! What could go wrong?

*faints

Seriously I'm trying to control myself over here. This thing makes me want to sell my montego and upgrade to this cougar as soon as possible.

*faints more dramatically*

I mean it is a pretty good opportunity. Maybe he will trade you?

Looks clean. Likey.
![]() 08/20/2014 at 10:49 |

I doubt it.
While mine may be more rare, it's certainly no where near this good of condition.
I guess people expect carpet inside the car for 8 grand...
![]() 08/20/2014 at 10:52 |

SO CLEAN.
Maybe Jared's right, maybe I should offer a Montego trade

9/10 Would cruise the hell out of this!
![]() 08/20/2014 at 10:59 |
|
hell yeah!
In other news, would you like to buy a Montego for about 8k? I have another potential investment...
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:01 |
|
If only... I doubt the wifey would allow it right now.
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:02 |
|
Yeah I know the feeling.
If I came home with a second, my wife would kill me
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:38 |
|
Yeah but you are saving weight!
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:40 |
|
yeah and the small holes in the floor are "speed holes"
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:43 |
|
Damn right they are. They used to do that in racing so you might as well do it on the Montego!
![]() 08/20/2014 at 11:56 |
|
And the Montego/Cyclone is a proven NASCAR champ.
Maybe I shouldn't repair the floors? lol

![]() 11/04/2014 at 09:00 |

Did you happen to buy a 1970 Mercury in the Metro Detroit area?
Because if you did we need to become friends
![]() 11/04/2014 at 09:03 |
|
Yeah I think that's the car. Seriously, we're about to become friends. I have a 68 Mercury Montego.
![]() 11/06/2014 at 15:45 |

yeah i bought the cougar from a guy in plymouth , it was on craigs list and the more i look at it, i'm thinking it has to be my car one tell tale giveaway sign being , the plain center caps on the magnum 500 wheels
![]() 11/06/2014 at 15:49 |

![]() 11/06/2014 at 15:51 |

nice , where you located , I'm downriver ... hit a few shows around town after i got it
![]() 11/06/2014 at 15:54 |

Good for you on not paying 8k, I had a feeling there was some wiggle room. Seems like a GREAT car. 351 working good for you? Have you done anything to it? Dual Exhaust?
I'm over in Canton. Last time I took the car out it was for a Cars & Coffee in Novi at the Lingenfelter office. I always do Cruisin US 12 in Wayne in July and normally a couple other random events.

The car is great, haven't had to do much of anything to it , was missing the right rear wheel lip moulding , got a re-pop from mustangs unlimited and put that on.
Already had dual exhaust, but i did a lil surgery on the mis matched tail pipes and put some chrome tips on it, The 351 is a 2v motor, the guy put a stock intake and a holley 600 4v on it , it has headers. Plenty of power!!! The guy also gave me a trunk load of stuff, including original style steel wheels, rings the factory ac stuff ....
Hate this weather change , she's going in storage very very soon for some minor winter projects on her..

Those are 5 lug wheels right?
I would be tempted to try and take those off your hands....
Montego is on stock wheels/ hubcaps
so I just went with the stock 4 barrel manifold? That seems like a silly amount of work for a stock manifold (they are heavy as all hell too). I bet it sounds great with headers on it though
I have and Edelbrock Performer RPM on mine, and a 400 CFM 4 barrel Holley
![]() 11/06/2014 at 16:51 |
|
5 lug correct, one of the winter projects is to restore those "spare"style steel wheels and locate a set of tires to throw on, just in case i want to change the look of the car through-out the summertime....i thought about selling those wheels, till i saw what they are worth lol
I agree going with you on that iron manifold,(anchor) I plan on having the car for a long time, so an aluminum intake is probably in it's future , but when i do that i might as well cam it up a little bit too
![]() 11/06/2014 at 16:53 |
|
Sounds like I'm not getting hooked up with wheels LOL
And yeah I still have the boat anchor of a 2 barrel manifold (I'm keeping all original parts)
and a cam wouldn't hurt, I found a great performance upgrade by getting the Edelbrock Performer RPM (the RPM is a higher level model than the normal Performer) and the 4 barrel. The dual exhaust helped too. I was stock single before hand. It's also obscenely loud lol

what did you go with for mufflers?
![]() 11/06/2014 at 17:04 |

OOoo nice lead. I may have to follow up on those. At least ask for pics.

Flowmaster Super 44's. THEY ARE EPIC. but I'll let them speak for themselves:
This is a before and after exhaust upgrade video of my actual car. upgrade starts around 43 seconds if you want to skip ahead to the fun part.

hmmm sounds good , hard to tell on the p.c. on here sounds a lil loud , i think i might want mine just a little bit louder than it already is but don't want to end up with a drone sound inside either , like i said before i got lotsa time with this car ..
let me know how those wheels work out , if you don't get them i probably will, but i'll wait

I would recommend stepping down to the 40's if you don't want too loud.
When I did a decibel reader on my phone it told me I was at 86 at idle standing right next to the drivers door.
The 40's will be a little bit more mild. I did a TON of youtube surfing with great headphones on and sought out same year 302's with different mufflers and stock exhaust manifolds.
I'd recommend looking for 70 351 with flowmaster 40s

well, i'm not much of a blogging kind of guy, stumbled across this just looking at cougar images ,thinking i may want to raise the ass end of my car ever so slightly...saw the pic up top and hit visit page and here i was ... throughout the winter i will be listening to different exhausts, but knowing me i will probably leave mine alone till maybe next year(cept for tending to a couple minor leaks)
i may check back here from time to time though curious to see what you do to your montego in the future , or you can look me up on fb.. tim widenhofer...again let me know on that cl ad i sent(wheels) so i don't snatch them up from under you!!

Hahaha, I probably don't have the funds right now, so if you want em go for em.
And can I make a recommendation on the lifting the rear?
I recommend lowering the front. It gives the same effect but you can upgrade the front suspension for better handling and at the same time not make the rear suspension worse .
